Update via iPhone

August 1, 2012

We’ve been busy busy, seeing family and friends, visiting parents, playing, learning new words. My iPhone tells me it’s been too long since I’ve updated, so I’ll let it do the talking…

Ahhhhhhh beaching

July 10, 2012

Mama got some Vitamin D! We made our way down to Orange Beach, Alabama, to Chris’s granny’s house, which is on the intercoastal waterway of the Gulf of Mexico. It’s glorious and peaceful, and we’ve been holidaying there for years (and Chris much much longer!), typically with like eight friends in tow.

This time, we got to introduce our darling baby to the ocean for the first time.

20120710-163325.jpg
I’ll let this picture demonstrate how she felt about it.

Ha she LOVED it! We always had an inkling that she was a water baby considering she’s always loved baths, and you can’t get her off a splash pad. But it was so sweet to see her enjoy herself so much. She just wanted to be walked along while dipping her mouth in every once in awhile.

20120710-163933.jpg

She loved the sand, too, and spent time playing in it with DaDa every day, while Mama got some much-needed relaxing-in-the-sun time.

We had such a wonderful time hanging out with some of Chris’s fam, plus our lovely friends Matt and Marina, who joined us for a few days.

The Little has a thing about climbing into chairs on her own. She gets so proud. Her little throne!

Granny has a little white dog named Buddy, and Cora followed him around all weekend on her hands and knees, saying, “ruff ruff”! It was so freaking cute. Her words have just gotten out of control recently. I’m going to have to write them all out here!

Little beach baby. Can’t wait to go back!

Whew we’ve been busy! Our boxes have finally arrived from England, so we’ve been trying to cram a bunch of crap into an already overfull house. No fun. My mother-in-law came to help for the weekend, along with my sister, and they were a huge huge help. Still not quite finished, but getting there.

Last weekend we had a little first birthday for our darling Cora. With all the moving, I hadn’t done any prep work at all (besides pinning things on Pinterest, which, though it seems as if you’re prepping, you aren’t actually getting much done!). Cora and I went to my mom’s house a few days early to get things together.

Cora’s uncle Philip (or Uncle Bubba, as he’s known to Cora) experimented with her cake all week. It turned out so beautiful!

We invited some lovely friends and their littles, as well as Cora’s family in Birmingham. We had a lovely time. Cora ADORES children, especially older children. She had a blast.

Until she realized it was squishy.

Happy birthday to our sweet, darling, brilliant, beautiful, hilarious, precocious little girl. I love you so much, Cora! We are so incredibly lucky that you’re ours!

Where to begin?

June 16, 2012

Feel like I haven’t updated in ages! We’ve been puttering along. After Mimi left for San Fran with her boyfriend Fred last week, Cora’s Papa and Honey came to visit. She was so happy to see them!

20120616-215641.jpg

Chris and his dad installed a little fence for the pup, and Cora said Papa!! Such a smart little.

20120616-215812.jpg

20120616-215834.jpg

Unfortunately the little was very fussy all weekend and only got worse, culminating in middle-of-the-night screaming. She was teething something fierce — the tooth to the right of the middle bottoms poked through finally. Have to say it was absolutely the worst one yet. Was actually worried she was really ill! Unfortunately Dada was out of town for the first half of the week. It was a really long week. (#poormama)

20120616-220236.jpg

We did have some fun times, though. We met friendlies at the splash pad, and Cora had a ball.

20120616-220333.jpg

20120616-220437.jpg

We also had our friends Anna and Angus round to visit the playground and the local chickens.

20120616-220628.jpg

20120616-220640.jpg

The little started feeling much better on Wednesday, and Dada got home that night. Poor sweets!

20120616-221051.jpg

We had Auntie and Michael and some friends round for grilling out tonight. Was gorgeous and not too hot outside. So nice!! Cora had her first corn-on-the-cob and saw her first sparkler. She was so so sweet. Oh how I adore this little!!

Friends Anna & Angus!

We’re getting ourselves all settled in — just in time for our 18 boxes to arrive from England. (Side note — what on earth is in there? Obv nothing important?? £800 boxes full of crap to crowd our new house? Oh, yay.) My mom has been here all week and is like a little whirling dervish; we’re very close to unpacked.

Cora has been eating up all of this unadulterated Mimi time. She thinks Mimi is her personal walking assistant: “One finger, please!”

Cora’s Papa and Honey are here this weekend to visit the little and to help us build a fence for the pup in the backyard. It’s shaping up to be quite the undertaking.

Cora’s favorite thing about the new house is the front sidewalk/road. Safe.

20120608-212034.jpg
Wait for Mama!

She likes to crawl and/or walk down the sidewalk, make her way up the stairs, and then sit in the gutter!

20120608-212146.jpg
Gutter baby!

She’s also fallen for our neighbor’s sweet cat Toby.

Ahahaha same same!

We’re love love loving the new place. However, my heart’s aching a bit as we’re missing a close friend’s wedding in London tomorrow. I’ll probably have a little tear. Congrats, Ellie & Joe!! Wish we were there for the happy occasion!! xxxx

20120605-150012.jpg

We’ve finally moved in! We found a cute little 3/2 near West Midtown. It has an open-plan living area, a back deck, and a looooooovely front porch. Can’t wait to string up a hammock!

Mimi is here this week to help us unpack and get settled. Thank goodness. We’ve already sorted the kitchen, and we’re working in the bedrooms now.

Can I just say yay for wedding registries? Even if they happened nine years ago? Because we’ve come back to the most amazing cookware (that we certainly didn’t appreciate at 24!) Brilliant.

At the moment we’re still in serious disarray. We’re working on it.

We had such a lovely weekend; I hated for it to end! I’ve been feeling quite down lately (as I’m wont to do), and three days of blissful family and friend-time has made things look a bit more rosy.

Our friend Sherry visited us for her birthday, so we spent Saturday night and Sunday celebrating, which was lovely.

During Sherry’s birthday lunch, Cora got a bit fussy. Chris took her for a walk and she actually went to sleep. On someone other than Mama!!! Amazing.

Yesterday we decided to pack a picnic and head to the Piedmont Park splash pad.

We weren’t sure how the splash pad would work, as Cora isn’t walking yet, but she had SO. MUCH. FUN.

Definitely going to spend some more time there this summer!
